FROM THE MANHATTAN DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S WEBSITE:

Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau, citing a dramatic increase in landlord harassment cases in Manhattan neighborhoods, will sponsor two community forums on "Tenant Issues: Criminal vs. Civil."

The first forum will be held on

MONDAY, May 2, 2007
at 163 West 125th Street, 8th Floor
7:00pm­­–9:00 pm.
Refreshments will be served at 6:30pm.

Mr. Morgenthau will give the opening remarks. Various community leaders will be in attendance to give an overview of their agency's involvement as it relates to LANDLORD-TENANT HARASSMENT ISSUES.

Panelists include:

  • Assistant Chief Raymond Diaz, Commanding Officer of NYPD Patrol Borough Manhattan North;
  • Raymond Muzzio, New York City Housing Authority;
  • Donald Ranshte, New York City Department of Buildings;
  • Assistant Commissioner Deborah Rand, Department of Housing Preservation and Development;
  • Barry Jamison, New York City Commission on Human Rights; and
  • Mary McCune, Harlem Legal Services.

Thomas Wornom, Chief of the District Attorney's Special Prosecutions Bureau, will explain what an individual can do if she or he is a victim of a housing or financial crime. He will also talk about landlord-tenant harassment and related issues, as well as other potential crimes and schemes involving renting, buying, or selling apartments.

During the forum, neighborhood residents will be given an opportunity to share their concerns on all these relevant topics.

The second forum (covering the same topic) will be held on

Refreshments at 6:30pm.
